About SAT

Test Structure

📚 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (64 minutes)

Tests reading comprehension, writing and language skills, and command of evidence.

  • Reading Test (52 minutes): 5 passages, 52 questions
  • Writing and Language (35 minutes): 4 passages, 44 questions
  • Literature, historical documents, social studies, and science
  • Grammar, usage, and rhetorical skills

🔢 Math (80 minutes)

Tests mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and data analysis skills.

  • No Calculator (25 minutes): 20 questions
  • Calculator (55 minutes): 38 questions
  • Algebra, advanced math, problem solving, geometry, trigonometry
  • Multiple choice and grid-in questions

✍️ Essay (Optional - 50 minutes)

Analytical writing task that tests reading, analysis, and writing skills.

  • Analyze how an author builds an argument
  • Use evidence from the passage
  • Demonstrate understanding of rhetorical techniques
  • Scored separately (2-8 scale in three dimensions)

Scoring System

Total score ranges from 400-1600, combining Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (200-800) and Math (200-800).

Test Frequency
