About GRE

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for many graduate schools in the United States and Canada. The GRE is owned and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills.

Test Structure

โœ๏ธ Analytical Writing (60 minutes)

Tests critical thinking and analytical writing skills through two tasks.

  • Analyze an Issue (30 minutes): Present your perspective on a general interest topic
  • Analyze an Argument (30 minutes): Critique the logic of an argument
  • Scored 0-6 in half-point increments
  • Tests ability to articulate complex ideas clearly

Two 30-minute sections testing reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.

  • Reading comprehension passages
  • Text completion (vocabulary in context)
  • Sentence equivalence
  • Scored 130-170 in 1-point increments

Two 35-minute sections testing mathematical reasoning and problem-solving.
